Cabeças do Reguengo Vira Cabeças Tinto embodies the essence of "Slow Wine," a concept championed by João Afonso to reconnect humans with nature and minimize the environmental impact of winemaking. This philosophy focuses on crafting wines that reflect the best of what nature has to offer while respecting their natural evolution as living organisms.
The grapes for Vira Cabeças Tinto come from a field blend of 12 indigenous varieties cultivated in five old vineyards in Serra de São Mamede. These low-yield vines produce fruit of exceptional quality and character, deeply rooted in the granitic soils and benefiting from the region's unique microclimate.
The vinification process is meticulous, with natural fermentation using wild yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation to soften the wine's texture. The wine is aged for 20 months in semi-new 1,000-liter oak barrels, allowing for slow maturation and the development of complex flavors. Bottled without fining, Vira Cabeças Tinto retains its authenticity and vibrant character.
This wine is medium-bodied with balanced acidity (5.3 g/L) and a smooth alcohol content of 13%. Its harmonious profile makes it ideal for pairing with roasted meats, hearty stews, or aged cheeses. Limited to 2,650 bottles, it is a true representation of nature’s bounty and the artistry of traditional Portuguese winemaking.
